Tutoring
If you are grappling with a science or computing problem as a student, feel free to email me to request help or a virtual meeting.
It is always hugely rewarding to see someone who is putting in the work overcome a sticking point, like understanding Lagrange multipliers, or the method of images. There’s immense beauty in the laws of nature (which includes mathematics, imho) and it is a privilege to serve as the tour guide through those ideas.
Priority is given to students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a tutor, and students preparing for a watershed standardized test (Math qualifying exam / Subject GRE / SAT).
Payment is accepted in the form of subject matter enthusiasm and paying it forward.
Teachers / Teaching Assistants
My graduate studies were supported by a teaching assistantship (TA) role, which led to creating visualizations to help students think about different topics. If you have a particular concept that you’d like to craft a visual demo for, I would love to support that as I’m able. Previous projects include plotting apps/scripts deployed in Jupyter notebooks and Matlab.
Graduate Students
Graduate school can be brutal! Email if you’d like to talk about career arc, potential research problems, buffing your CV, or technical questions.
I also have worked solutions for a number of physics texts that I am studying. Caveat spectator: looking at worked solutions can be harmful to your health. Most problems require identifying a line of attack in addition to applying an appropriate algorithm. Building familiarity in matching solution methods to problems is half of the battle, and worked solutions often omit this step.
Seeing an algorithm execute builds confidence and familiarity.
Seeing what the correct approach is spoils the exercise of choosing that algorithm in the first place.
